Harper DEMANDS even more secrecy! Worried yet? YOU SHOULD BE!

As the official newspaper of the Government of Canada published since 1841, the Canada Gazette is one of the vehicles that Canadians can use to access the laws and regulations that govern their daily lives.

Government departments and agencies as well as stakeholders from the private sector are required by law, to publish certain information in the Canada Gazette. The official newspaper is published under the authority of the Statutory Instruments Act and of the Statutory Instruments Regulations.

The Canada Gazette contains formal public notices, official appointments, proposed regulations, regulations and public Acts of Parliament from government departments and agencies. It also contains miscellaneous public notices from the private sector.

Harper is ending the requirement to publish with C-38. This affords them the opportunity to work in secret. Worried?? If not, you should be.

Tell people. Tell CARP. Tell Opposition MPs. Tell everywhere you can. Who wants a secret Canadian government???? Is this what our troops fought and died for? Is this what we want to leave our children and grandchildren?

TELL and keep TELLING.. YELL IT from the rooftops!!!

CBC TV talking hair-do's drive me crazy!

It's the May Day Event World Wide. Millions are out in support of it and also to oppose austerity being forced upon all of us by the 1%.

CBC TV is at Parliament Hill to interview protesters there. Anchor Carole MacNiel on CBC was asking a protester "'why protest' since all reports say Canada came out of the economic downturn of 2008 very well and our economy is doing well?" I had to write to her at CBC ---

Hey Carole,

Just heard you say that Canada, according to all reports is doing better than most, in reference to the economy. You live in a nice bubble. 

What are the statistics for food bank use in Canada; is it declining? I guess that 1 million (+ or -) just haven't been told how good things are. Billions spent on decrepit antique subs, new war ships, F35's, G8 & G20 summits and, yes, bank bailouts. It's all good in Canada.

Last week in Walmart I saw an senior woman (easily in her 70's and maybe 80's) pushing a broom around the store; tag said she was Walmart maintenance team. When she left I asked the cashier if she was working because she had to or just to keep busy. Answer: she is a senior and she is single. Single seniors live a life of poverty, and she was working because she HAD to. The cashier also said that this lady was not alone, many single elderly are working because they have to.

I hear of all the Walmart expansions and now Target coming into Canada with jobs. These jobs will not be going to the youth who are getting educated and seek greener and more rewarding pastures than the service industry provides. These jobs will be for the elderly and less advantaged. By the way, in Kelowna, BC the minimum wage is now a whopping $10.25. Try living on that with the high cost of living.

Since the encounter at Walmart I've talked with other people about the issue with seniors being single and a whole new world opened up. Kelowna has many seniors whom I thought they were all doing well. Nothing could be further from the truth. 

There's a side to Kelowna that most people are not aware of; a poverty hiding below the glitz's of wineries, golf courses and gated retirement living. Now, thanks to Facebook and posting about this issue I've learned that it is present coast to coast. Single seniors are leaving Alberta. As the cost of living climbs these seniors are looking for more affordable places to locate, and BC is not an option.

Yes if you travel in the circle of the 1% you would think all is well, but if you open your eyes a whole different picture emerges.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Second Rally to Protest Voter Suppression in 2011 Federal Election

In response to Democracy Canada’s call for a second day of action to protest voter suppression in last year’s federal election, concerned citizens in Kelowna will be meeting on Saturday, March 31, at 1:00 at The Sails. The previous day of action on March 11 saw people from 32 cities in Canada converge to call for a public inquiry into the robo-call affair.

Thirty-one thousand Canadians have reported irregularities in the last election, and 700 incidents are under investigation by Elections Canada. While some like to portray the misleading robo-calls as trivial and characteristic of the dirty tricks that all politicians take part in, harassing voters at odd hours of the day or night and deliberately misleading voters by telling them to go to incorrect or non-existent polling stations is not a case of politics as usual. Harassing voters and misleading them are voter suppression techniques and they are unjust and illegal.

Jean-Pierre Kingsley, a former chief electoral officer at Elections Canada, has called the scope of the illegal robo-calls unprecedented and says that jail time should definitely be considered if the allegations can be proven. The allegations must be dealt with swiftly and transparently because they erode our democracy and cast real doubt on the legitimacy of the Conservative’s claim to a majority government. Regardless of who might be behind the scandal, protecting democracy is a non-partisan issue.

According to a recent Postmedia News poll, 75 per cent of Canadians support a call for an independent inquiry with judicial powers to look into the robo-call affair. Prime Minister Harper has countered by saying that Elections Canada is invested by law to investigate and must continue in its role. But Elections Canada will not obtain all of its promised new investigative powers for at least another six months, when required legislation might be passed. Moreover, Canadians have seen with the in-and-out fraud of 2006 how seriously and for what length of time Elections Canada can become bogged down in acrimonious litigation, right up to the Supreme Court. For these reasons, Canadians need a public inquiry into the Robocall fraud, and we need it today.

In Kelowna, the second ‘Get Fraud Out of Parliament’ rally will cross over in time and place with a ‘Costs of War’ peace gathering organized by the Kelowna Peace Group. Organizers of each event see an obvious affinity between those who seek justice and those who seek peace. The peace gathering is, like the protest rally, the second event of its kind to fall within the month of March. On March 3, peace activists gathered at The Sails to call for peace in the Middle East.
